User agreement

1. What the Service is

soffa.tv lets several people watch a video at the same time, in sync, with a shared chat, reactions and subtitles. The Service does not host, store or distribute third-party films, series or other content. It only synchronizes playback.

Video comes from three kinds of sources, all chosen by the users themselves:

• official embedded players of video platforms (YouTube, Rutube, VK Video) that play the video from the platform under that platform’s own terms;
• direct links to video files (for example .mp4 or HLS streams) that you add at your own responsibility;
• your own video files that you upload to the Service.

We do not support, and will not help to circumvent, services protected by DRM such as Netflix, Disney+ or Amazon Prime Video.

2. Who may use the Service

You must be at least 16 years old. If you are 16 or 17, the Service works in a limited mode: content marked for adults is hidden from the showcase and only non-personalised advertising is shown. If you are under 16, you may not register or use the Service, and we do not store the date of birth you entered.

You provide your date of birth at registration. It is used only to check your age and cannot be changed by you afterwards; contact support if it is wrong.

You are responsible for everything that happens under your account and for keeping your login link and devices safe.

3. Your content and your responsibility

You may only add links to, and upload, content that you have the right to share. By uploading a file you confirm that you own it or hold a licence that allows this use. By adding a direct link you confirm that the file at that address is lawfully available and that watching it in a room does not infringe anyone’s rights.

We do not check links or files in advance. If we receive a complaint from a rights holder, we may block the link, remove the file and, on repeated infringement, close the account. The copyright complaint form is at /legal/takedown.

Chat messages, room names, user names and uploaded subtitles are your content too. They must follow the Community rules (/legal/community).

You keep all rights to your content. You give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, transmit and display it only as far as needed to run the Service (for example, to send your subtitle file to the other people in the room).

4. Rooms, roles and moderation

Rooms are reachable by link only and are not listed publicly. Anyone who has the link can enter. Share links only with people you trust.

The person who created the room is its host. The host can change room settings, remove participants and pass the host role to someone else. Depending on the room settings, other participants may control playback.

We may remove content, close rooms, restrict or ban accounts that break this agreement or the Community rules, and we may do so without prior notice where the matter is urgent (for example, spam, harassment or a rights holder complaint). You may appeal by writing to support.

5. Free plan and the Plus subscription

The free plan includes 1 hour of watching time per day. Time is counted on the server only while a room you host is playing. Guests in your room do not spend their own time. The limit resets at midnight in the time zone set in your profile. When the time is over, playback is paused softly; chat, voice and reactions keep working.

Plus is a paid subscription, billed monthly or yearly, that removes the time limit and advertising and unlocks the features listed on the pricing page (for example, AI subtitle translation and permanent rooms). Prices are shown on the site before you pay.

Payments are processed by Paddle.com Market Ltd ("Paddle"), which acts as merchant of record: Paddle sells the subscription to you, charges tax, issues receipts and handles refunds. Paddle’s own terms apply to the payment in addition to this agreement. Refunds and cancellation are described in the Refunds and cancellation policy (/legal/refunds).

We do not receive or store your card details.

6. Advertising

Users on the free plan may see banners from a third-party advertising network (Google AdSense) outside the player. We never show advertising over the video and never show video ads. Personalised advertising is shown only to users aged 18 or over who have consented to advertising cookies; everyone else sees non-personalised advertising or none. Plus subscribers see no advertising.

7. Third-party platforms

When a room plays a video through an embedded YouTube, Rutube or VK Video player, that platform’s terms and privacy policy apply to the video and the player. We have no control over their availability, advertising or content, and a video may stop being available at any time.

Film information in the showcase is provided by TMDB. This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.

8. Intellectual property of the Service

The Service, its name, design, code and texts belong to us or our licensors. You may use the Service as intended; you may not copy, modify, resell it, or use automated tools to load it beyond normal use.

9. Availability and changes

We work hard to keep the Service running but provide it "as is" without a guaranteed uptime. We may change, pause or discontinue features. We will notify you of material changes to paid features in advance and, where required, offer a proportional refund.

We may update this agreement. The current version is always at /legal/terms with the date at the top. If a change is material, we will inform you by email or in the interface at least 14 days before it takes effect. Continued use after that date means acceptance.

10. Liability

To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for content added by users or third-party platforms, for loss of data caused by factors outside our control, or for indirect or consequential loss. Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in this agreement limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including consumer rights in your country of residence.

You agree to compensate us for claims by third parties that arise from content you added in breach of section 3.

11. Termination

You can delete your account at any time in your profile (Privacy, "Delete account"). We may terminate or suspend your account for breach of this agreement. On termination, your rooms and uploads are deleted according to the Privacy policy; an active Plus subscription is handled as described in the Refunds and cancellation policy.

12. Governing law and disputes

This agreement is governed by the law of [Jurisdiction]. Consumers also keep the protection of mandatory law in their country of residence. Before going to court, please write to us: most problems can be solved by support. EU residents may also use the European Online Dispute Resolution platform.
